I recently spoke in New York City on achieving goals in 2015. I use goals as direction, but rarely set a firm date as to when it should be achieved. My goal is to love each day and make it spectacular because in the end life is every day. Seeing relevance and fun in the little tasks you do towards a bigger goal is very important! |
I typically have 3 year goals, 90 day goals and daily goals.
3 year goals are the big ones that the 90 day goals are related to.
Daily goals are the little steps I need to make frequently to make my BIG goals happen.
I was recently walking down Wall Street (where my office is) and overheard two people talking about goals.
One guy was saying; “I´m going to the gym 5 days a week this year!”
I thought (hmm no you won´t, unless you are professional athlete that is…) If your goal is to get fitter and healthier then start with 20 minutes once a week. Start with something simple and have your long term goal ie. 3 year goal of becoming spectacularly fit. Change is challenging and we need to make it simple for us to achieve our goals or it´s extremely likely it will never happen. I frequently only go to the gym for 20-30 minutes. This make me feel great! I chunk other things; reading books, healthy eating etc. If you want to achieve your goals then the formula is; “Do something.” If you consistently do something you´ll get there!
Enough about my goals.
What I realized when preparing the talk on goals was that most of my goals are team related.
In fact all the big things I have achieved after university have been TEAM related.
And as our doorman Mark told me the other day; “Hey Erlend there is only an M and E in team.” Then he laughed really loud. He is a great team player.
What I encourage you to think about is how much more you can achieve as a team. That is the foundation of my philosophy. Create a team that runs a system for you.
What does your dream team look like?
Once you have written it down (or drawn it) start focusing on building that team and your goals will be achieved Soooooo much faster!

Money Master the Game: 7 Simple Steps to Financial Freedom by Tony Robbins
This is not a TEAM related book, but a very important book to read. I thought the book should have been 300 pages and not the 600 or so pages it is. Please make sure you read the chapters that are relevant to you. If you nothing about investing then here are the two main things to know;
