For entrepreneur and CEO Erlend Bakke the 4-hour workweek is a reality. In his new bestselling book “Never Work Again” he explains exactly how to start a virtual business that will allow you to work less, earn more and live your freedom.
It was way back in 2007 that Tim Ferris introduced us to the idea of lifestyle design in his bestselling book “The 4-Hour Workweek”. Since then the book has gone to sell well over a million copies and has spent 7 consecutive years on the bestseller lists.
Sadly for most of us, still stuck on the 9 to 5 treadmill, the 4-hour workweek remains no more than a distant dream. But for 31 year old globetrotting entrepreneur Erlend Bakke this dream is already a daily reality.
The CEO of three companies employing a total of twenty staff Erlend works an average of just five hours a week – okay, so that’s an hour over the fabled 4-hour workweek, but five hours a week to run three companies is still pretty impressive.
Norwegian born Erlend splits his time between London, Oslo, San Francisco and Davao City in the Philippines (where one of his companies is based) and has mastered ethical outsourcing as a means to achieve his elusive lifestyle.
It wasn’t always like this, however. Just three years ago Erlend was under so much stress and working such long hours that he ended up collapsing on a London tube train and, thinking he was going to die, had to beg a stranger to call him an ambulance. “That was my wake-up call” explained Erlend. “Luckily I got a second chance.”
Since then Erlend has restructured his business efforts so that he can live life to the full. His focus is on building companies that are scalable and sustainable and now he is helping others to do the same.
His recently published book “Never Work Again” is already a bestseller in the US, Canada and the UK. Subtitled “Work Less, Earn More and Live Your Freedom” it is both a philosophical and a practical guide to achieving the twin lifestyle dreams of financial freedom and time freedom. As Erlend puts it, “It’s all about how to build a successful and profitable business without the long hours and high stress that most entrepreneurs suffer from.”
The first half of the book is more philosophical, getting the reader to explore their true motivation and what they really want from life. “You think it’s about the money, but it’s not,” explains Erlend. “Yes, the money is important, but ultimately it’s about following your passions and living the life of your dreams.” The question you will answer as you read through the book is “what does freedom mean to me?”
The second half of the book is devoted to the practical steps required to create a virtual business. As well as going through the process of starting, automating and outsourcing a business, Erlend sets out a number of business blueprints that the reader can follow to make financial and time freedom a reality in their own lives.
